The Student Council is looking for student representatives for the board of the Icelandic Student Services

Students have three representatives on the board of the Icelandic Student Services, the term of office being two years at a time. The last time the board was appointed was in 2019, so it’s time to do it again. According to a regulation for the Icelandic Student Services at the University of Iceland, the board consists of five individuals: the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture appoints one main representative and a vice-representative, the University Council appoints one main representative and a vice-representative and the Student Council appoints three main representatives and three vice-representatives.

Qualification requirements

  • Interest in the workings of the Student Council and students’ affairs.
  • Experience of student advocacy is an advantage
  • Active participation in the university community is an advantage
  • Knowledge of the administration of the University of Iceland is an advantage
  • Good social skills
  • Ability to express oneself in speech and writing in Icelandic

It is expected that applicant do not study at the University of Iceland during the appointment period and will care about the interests of students and the Icelandic Student Services.

The Student Council is looking for a Project Manager

The Student Council of the University of Iceland is looking for a Project Manager. 

The is a two-month job at the Student Council’s rights office in mapping the financial situation of students in Iceland. The role involves gathering information and data on students’ rights within the welfare system and the goal is to get a better picture of their position in different social situations. The rights of students to employment and income security, health services, education and social services shall be looked into. The Project Manager oversees the collection of information and data in consultation with the office and the board of the Student Council.

Qualification:

  • Interest in the workings of the Student Council and students’ affairs.
  • Knowledge and experience in finance, analytical work and economic research.
  • Education  befitting the work
  • Other knowledge and experience that is useful in the job.
  • Willingness and ability to work with Student Council members, the Student Council’s office and other stakeholders
  • Good social skills.
  • Experience in management and policy formulation is an advantage.
  • Initiative and ability to work independently.

The Project Manager is hired for a 100% job from July 1st to August 31st or by further agreement. The Student Council is looking for a Managing Director

– EXTENDED APPLICATION DEADLINE –

The Student Council of the University of Iceland is looking for a Managing Director. 

The Managing Director supervises the Student Council’s finances, the daily operations of the office, including attendance systems of the Student Council’s employees, oversees the making of contracts for the Student Council and the collection of advertisements in any of the Council’s published material, and is responsible for writing the minutes of Student Council meetings in addition to meetings of the Board of the Student Council. Along with other daily projects for the Student Council office.

Qualifications:

  • Interest in the workings of the Student Council and students’ affairs in addition to being an active member of the University society
  • Knowledge and experience of finances and bookkeeping
  • Knowledge of accounting softwares is an advantage
  • Willingness and ability to work with Student Council members, the Student Council office and other stakeholders
  • Knowledge of the University of Iceland’s administrative body is an advantage
  • Good Social skills
  • Prior work in event planning and managing is an advantage
  • A competence in communicating, both verbally and in written text, in Icelandic and English
  • Initiative and an ability to work independently
  • Formal qualifications befitting the work is an advantage
  • Other knowledge and experience relevant to the position

Student Council meeting June 9th 2021

The Student Council’s next meeting will be held in Oddi-101 and on Teams at 5:00 p.m. June 9th.

According to paragraph 9 of the Student Council’s laws, the Council’s meetings are open to all students at the University of Iceland. Students who are not members of the Student Council may therefore attend meetings and listen to discussions within the Council. If a student wishes to attend the meeting, a request needs to be sent to shi@hi.is to join the Teams meeting.

Looking for representatives for the University Council’s committees

According to Article 21 of the Student Council’s Laws, the Student Council shall appoint student representatives to the committees of the University Council. At this time we are looking for a graduate student representative for the Quality Committee as well as an observer in the Security Committee. Periods for both committees are until June 2024.

  • Interest in the work of the Student Council and students’ affairs 
  • Initiative and ability to work independently
  • Good communication skills
  • Active participation in the university community is an advantage
  • Knowledge of the administration of the University of Iceland is an advantage
